5. Second Reading - Graduation Requirement Course Draft 10-5-09
a. Motion to Accept the Graduation Requirements Course, Formerly Independent Studies with the following amendment: Students must have an overall Grade Point Average of at least 2.75 and be in good standing, or 3.00 for the previous 24 credit hours, and be in good standing. Graduate Students must have a 3.0 or higher and be in good standing.

6. Break into sub-committees at: 11:27 am
a. College Success
Only freshman students who place into 083/093 courses will be required to take College Success. Those freshman students who place into English 103 will not be required to take College Success. Those students with more than 24 credit hours will not be required to take College Success and it will be offered as an option. This change would not take place until the next academic year instead of the spring of this year. The College Success class would be waived for those that choose to stay on an older status sheet that requires the three hour College Success class.
This will continue to be discussed and a formal draft will be brought to the full committee at this meeting.

c. Strategic Enrollment
i. College entrance process – Instruction Affairs to review and recommend revisions if appropriate, with a focus on required placement based on testing.
ii. Continue to discuss registration and advising changes
iii. The focus of the discussion is to look at clarifying the language to address those students with greater than 24 credit hours. This will continue to be discussed and will be brought to the full committee next meeting.
d. Distance Learning –
i. Develop online instruction procedures based on new distance education policy.

e. College Success – Proposal for second reading:
1. College Success will become equivalent to a 15 hour contact hour freshman orientation, no tuition or fees will be assessed. *Freshman orientation will not be part of the core element for a college degree.
2. Freshman Orientation will be delivered by Student Services and College Center personnel.
3. Student services and College Centers will determine the content of freshman orientation.
4. Freshman Orientation is required for all new entering students, who have not completed college course work.
5. Students who transfer college credits are encouraged, but not required to complete the Freshman Orientation.
*this is the true policy change.

a. Curriculum :
This committee will continue to work on an Independent Studies Policy.
Motion to approve the recommendation for Curriculum Subcommittee to accept the Social Science Degree changes as a second reading.

c. Strategic Enrollment – This subcommittee is looking at revising the admissions policy concerning the accuplacer placement. They are making good progress.
d. Distance Learning – This committee will continue to develop online procedures based on the distance learning education policy. They will also begin to work on a webpage where students and staff can look to get started on online courses.

All Graduation Requirement Courses (GRC) must be approved by the Department Chairperson and the Vice President of Instruction. A GRC can only be taken by those students who are in the last semester of an Associate, the last two semesters of a Bachelor, or anytime during a Graduate degree program.
Students must have an overall Grade Point Average of at least 2.75 and be in good standing, or 3.00 for the previous 24 credit hours, and be in good standing. Graduate Students must have a 3.0 or higher and be in good standing.
A GRC will not be allowed if the same course is offered within fifty (50) miles of the student’s home district or online. However, if there is a scheduling conflict, a student may still apply. No more than two (2) classes per semester can be taken by this method.
1. The GRC Form is filled out electronically by the student and the instructor and sent out for approval by email in the following order: Registrar’s Office (verification of GPA), Department Chairperson, Vice President of Instruction, Registrar’s Office (adding GRC to system). Approval is shown by electronic signature on the form or by email.
2. A GRC Form must be submitted to the Registrar's Office no later than the last day of the add/drop period.
Remuneration and mileage
1. Instructors will be paid at the rate of $100.00 per credit hour for each GRC.
2. Mileage will be paid to instructors for travel associated with GRC as per OLC mileage policy for other travel associated with Instruction.
